Ija Designs

I fell in LOVE with Ija Designs the moment I clicked into their site. Can I be totally lame and say that everything in their site just speaks to me?! Because it totally does. My husband always jokes with me and says that I was born in the wrong time. If I could walk around with no shoes and big oversized dresses and flower crowns with lots of fringe all the time, I would. I love everything that speaks to my soul and gives off an energy like no other. That is exactly what Ija Designs does for me. It is jewelry that is beautiful but compliments your inner beauty.

Bar Ring

Ija Designs was founded in 2007 by Erin, a trained metalsmith and the most gorgeous woman! She is not only an amazing designer, but a breast cancer survivor. She finds her inspiration from everything around her including family and the textures of the land. It is no question that her work is stunning and of the highest quality. They have made it a passion to run their company completely green. Their studio is run on 100% renewable energy. Every piece of scrap metal is recycled and every item is made from recycled metal.

Creole Art Photography – Mommy and Me

IMG_8995 IMG_8966

Since I can remember the only thing I have ever wanted to be when I grew up was a Model. My mother will tell me stories of these big dreams I had and that she never knew where this idea came from, but my answer was always the same. I was going to move to NY and be a big time model for big time companies and that was it. While the dream may have changed a little, modeling is still something I love to do and will continue to do until I just do not enjoy it. I do not care how many people tell me I am too short and not fit enough or just not cut out for it, I will do it.

It is even better when I get to do a shoot with my sweet boys. I have worked with Sandrine from Creole Art Photography on a few projects before and I have fallen absolutely in love with her work. She is so amazing at what she does and I know she will go far.

Creole Art Photography is based in Layton, UT. She has this amazing all white studio that you can’t help but fall deeply in love with. I am crazy and if I could live in an all white everything house, I would be in absolute heaven. She has an amazing eye and captured so many amazing photos of the boys and I that I will cherish forever. She is so kind and sweet that it was easy for them to be comfortable, which allowed them to fully be themselves and play around.

I highly recommend if you are in the Weber County/Layton area to get in touch and use Creole Art Photography for any photoshoot you have coming up! Mommy and Me sessions are perfect for gifts for Father’s Day, birthdays, any gift you need, or just a fun way to remember the connection you share with your children while they are young forever. Make sure to check out her page and facebook for details soon on Mommy and Me sessions! Don’t forget to show her some love on her newly started Instagram as well!

I can not thank you enough Sandrine for these amazing photos of the boys and I! ❤

Star and Arrow Designs

In a world full of chaos and catastrophe, there are those people that are just genuinely amazing. Ashley is one of them. I always have people tell me that all the great artists and creators come from Utah. I am really starting to believe that. Totally biased because I truly love this state, but we’ll just go with it. (: Back to Ashley. We met through the wonderful world of Instagram and she instantly impressed my with all her amazing work and talent. Not only does she offer some amazing boho/tribal inspired prints, but she is an AMAZING artist. Each piece she offers  is a print of her original artwork. I have never seen watercolors that I love more than hers. Her attention to detail is so precise.

She has a ton of amazing prints available on her etsy, including the two shown above. She also offers custom items and can make any of your print wishes come true. Ashley was so kind to make me a custom print that I will always be able to share with my husband. You can see the print below. If you have been following me for a while you know my husband and I love Lifehouse. It holds a very dear spot in both our hearts, from the beginning of our relationship until now. He used to sing these lyrics to me every night before I would fall asleep. Ashley captured this very special song and my love for all things black and white perfectly with this custom print. I can not thank her enough for being so amazing!

elexiswatercolorI can not say enough great things about Star and Arrow Design! Make sure to check out her etsy and say hello on her IG!

Happy Birthday Dustin!

I had the pleasure of working with Dustin Izatt on a mentor shoot. I have known Dustin for a while now and he has to be one of the most positive, uplifting people I have ever known. Not only is he an amazing photographer, but he is such a motivational person and mentor to all those that need a hand or a lift up. He has started a personal journey to become a more positive person and you can see all his progress on his Facebook page here. When you are around him you can feel the positive energy. We need more people like Dustin in the world. That is initially what drew me to him, his energy and love for just living. Working with Dustin was such a pleasure and I am so glad that I got to meet such an amazing person.

Dustin is an all around photographer, shooting weddings, families, engagements, singles, anything you can imagine at Dustin Izatt Photography. He also teaches others during mentoring sessions and classes that he offers. Through his photography, you can see his gift with being able to connect with his models on a more personal level. He makes you feel like you have been lifelong friends and that you can be comfortable when getting the shots.

Not only does he do photography, he also has Dustin Izatt Photo Booths. Fun photo booth rentals in Utah for Weddings, Birthday Parties, Family Reunions, and more. It is the perfect way to celebrate with your guests and capture some great memories that can be cherished forever.

I just wanted to take the time out to say Happy Birthday Dustin and show off a little of his work and who he is as a person! Here is a little interview to get to know a little more about him and his passion for photography and also some of the amazing shots he got on his mentoring session!

What was your career path? How did you get from being an aspiring photographer to actually doing it full time, for a living?

I originally wanted to be a jr high school science teacher. I was working at a call center and doing photography on the side. I was shooting mostly nature shots. One of my friends happened to like my nature shots and was getting married, so she asked if I would take pictures at her wedding. I did and from there others asked me to do theirs. It got to the point I was making more shooting a few weddings per month than I was making working at the call center.

How do you get the person, place or thing that is in front of the camera onto the film, chip or paper in just the way you want?

I do a lot of communicating with my clients when it comes to posing them just the way I want, I ask them to mirror me and will position myself so they see exactly what it is that I’m wanting. I direct them where to look, where to place their hands, how to angle their body and head etc.

What motivates you to continue taking pictures economically, politically, intellectually or emotionally?

I would say emotionally I stay motivated to take pictures because it allows me to be creative and allows me to connect with others on a very personal level. I enjoy seeing the vast diversity each wedding brings and every wedding brings new connections. I enjoy hearing the highlights of how the couple met, how each of them grew up and how their families played a role in their lives of who they are today. It’s those emotional speeches and unique stories that keep me emotionally motivated to continue taking pictures.

Among your works, which one is your favorite? Why?

I had the opportunity to travel to Ireland to shoot a wedding and we spent a few hours at the Giant’s Causeway. It ended up being one of my favorite wedding pictures because the scenery was just so unique and majestic. My wife and I had never been out of the country, so to be trusted to fly across the globe to be there to capture these images meant a lot to us and was one of the best experiences we have had together. Every time I look at this image of this bride and groom kissing on the Giant’s Causeway, my memory is flooded with the amazing time we had together in Ireland.

What is the one thing you wish you knew when you started taking photos?

I wish I knew about the amazing opportunity of interning with those I admired. I was far too naive to even realize that you could intern, I thought everyone just learned everything themselves and did everything the hard way. As I started to develop my talent and became noticed by others, I had tons of people reach out to intern with me and I thought, why did I never think of that haha.

If you were not taking photos, what would you be doing as a career?

If I were to stop doing photography, I think I would pursue a career as a personal life coach or mentor and possibly look into public speaking. I’ve always had a passion for helping others.

How do you do it all?

This is a question I often got asked and every time I did I simply answered with something like, “I’m a mom, I can do everything.” Don’t get me wrong, I totally have a sense of superwoman spirit since I had children and rightfully so, but even she has to take some time off. Then I was looking at the photo above that my husband took of me yesterday, and normally I would have deleted it. “I look too tired” or “do you see those bags” would have been my first response. And I will not lie, I thought about deleting them and then I stopped. I try to teach my children that they are beautiful no matter what, yet I sit here being my worst critique when most people would never notice my tired eyes if I had never mentioned them. To others they would just see me, a mom and a woman who looks happy. My husband told me I looked beautiful today, so why would I see anything less than that. I should not be ashamed to show a photo off of myself that to me is not perfect, because that is exactly what I want you to see me as. I want everyone to receive a sense of rawness from my blog. It really got me thinking about that question, how do I do it all? My answer: I don’t. I would be lying to you if I said that I did. Yes, I am a mom, but I am not perfect. If that is what my readers have received from me, I feel I have not done my job as a blogger and totally done you all a disservice. Yes, I am the girl who can totally turn it on in front of a camera and rock a day out at the park with two kids in tow, but my life has its down just like any other. While I do share a majority of my life, I try not to share the bad experiences, but I can promise you I have bad days, my kids do throw fits, and it is not all high heels and happiness. This is the reality, that there are days where I am just down right tired and the kids have managed to pull out every toy I have not seen for the last 3 months. I remember reading blogs and seeing all these fabulous moms and their lives look so perfect that I questioned what I was doing wrong. Why do they not look tired or am I not giving my boys the best experience because I do not do fun projects or make super cute lunches for them every day. The answer is simply, No. It is okay to not be perfect, because I would be willing to bet that all these moms I envied had their share of bad moments too. I’m just perfectly imperfect and I’m okay with that. I am also not going to be afraid to share that with you.

The questions should be, “How do I make it work with the good and the bad?” Let’s face it, it is inevitable that life will have it’s bad moments. It is all about how you handle them that will define those moments. For the longest time I took the bad moments so personally that they would all break me down and cause me so much anxiety. Before I had children I was so carefree and nothing phased me. As soon as I had Bentleigh, my whole outlook on life changed. I was not only responsible for my life, but my child’s life. My anxiety went through the roof about every little bad moment that happened, and I’m talking everything. I knew something had to change, but no matter what I did I was still so overwhelmed. Did it happen overnight? Heck no. It took lots of trying and failing and getting back up again. It took me a total of about 3 years to finally make a change.

If you were to ask me how do I do it all now, my answer would be, “I take each moment for what it is because I am strong, because I know that the storm will pass, and every moment good or bad is a gift.” I may be in sweats some days and my house might not be magazine worthy, but I am surrounded by so many opportunities for great moments. Your life can be as amazing as you allow it to be. I love this quote by Jenny Layton from thehappygal.com, “What screws us up most in life is the picture in our head of how it is supposed to be.” We have to learn to see the joy in the picture that may have a little coloring outside the lines, but often times those are the pictures that were made with the most love and happiness. We have to learn to be perfectly imperfect. My picture could have been on the cover of Vogue or Marie Claire. Who are we kidding, I don’t even read those magazines unless I’m at the doctor! Now my picture is the cover of my favorite children’s book, that we can illustrate with any of our most favorite moments. It’s a picture that was created with love, hope, wonder, and a little bit of chaos. This is the picture I want to share with you, my perfectly imperfect life.

Slyfox Threads

This feature is long over do. If you have not checked out Slyfox Threads, do so now! I was first introduced to them through Instagram, as most of the shops I feature. I purchased a few items and loved them. They then had a casting call for models, so of course I submitted us. Hurleigh and I went down for the shoot and the rest is history. Most people will read this and say, “well of course you love them, you brand rep for them”. To that I say, yes I am a brand rep for them, but it is so much more than that. I would not represent a company I truly did not love with my whole heart and soul. They are so much more than just the shop you see. They are amazing artists, photographers, parents, entrepreneurs, fashion idols, and friends. They continually create products that can be loved by everyone in your family. I loved their clothes, but I fell in love with their vibe and kindness. They will instantly make you feel comfortable, like you are long time friends. They put their heart and souls into Slyfox Threads like I have never seen before. Hannah and Andrew are truly an amazing power couple.

Their designs are fun and free, with the little bit of edge that is needed in everyone’s lives. Of course the clothes are so effortlessly cool. Featuring sizes ranging from babies all the way up to the dad of the house, you are sure to find something that everyone in your life will love. They are continually thinking of new designs and release items all the time so you can expect fun new things throughout the year to add to your wardrobe. Slyfox Threads originally started as a happy accident when Hannah realized she could not find cute bibs for her son. Through that Slyfox Threads has grown from bibs to tees, leggings, hats, bags, and even prints. In the short amount of time Slyfox Threads has been around, they have made themselves widely know in the fashion world. You can see such children as Kourtney and Scott’s son Mason to Jessica Alba’s little girl Haven sporting their Slyfox Threads tees.

I had the pleasure of spending some time with Hannah, Andrew, and their family for Bentleigh’s birthday. They are the sweetest family you will ever meet and made us feel instantly like family. They are also the hardest working people I know. Inbetween activities when we had down time, they were back at work answering emails and questions, getting items ready to ship. They run every aspect of their company from design to marketing.

You can check out all their items here and visit their Instagram and Facebook to show them some love. I truly love this company and family. You will for sure not be disappointed in anything they offer!

I hope you love Slyfox Threads just as much as us. And stay tuned for some new exciting things to come!
