Star and Arrow Designs

In a world full of chaos and catastrophe, there are those people that are just genuinely amazing. Ashley is one of them. I always have people tell me that all the great artists and creators come from Utah. I am really starting to believe that. Totally biased because I truly love this state, but we’ll just go with it. (: Back to Ashley. We met through the wonderful world of Instagram and she instantly impressed my with all her amazing work and talent. Not only does she offer some amazing boho/tribal inspired prints, but she is an AMAZING artist. Each piece she offers  is a print of her original artwork. I have never seen watercolors that I love more than hers. Her attention to detail is so precise.

She has a ton of amazing prints available on her etsy, including the two shown above. She also offers custom items and can make any of your print wishes come true. Ashley was so kind to make me a custom print that I will always be able to share with my husband. You can see the print below. If you have been following me for a while you know my husband and I love Lifehouse. It holds a very dear spot in both our hearts, from the beginning of our relationship until now. He used to sing these lyrics to me every night before I would fall asleep. Ashley captured this very special song and my love for all things black and white perfectly with this custom print. I can not thank her enough for being so amazing!

elexiswatercolorI can not say enough great things about Star and Arrow Design! Make sure to check out her etsy and say hello on her IG!

Happy Birthday Dustin!

I had the pleasure of working with Dustin Izatt on a mentor shoot. I have known Dustin for a while now and he has to be one of the most positive, uplifting people I have ever known. Not only is he an amazing photographer, but he is such a motivational person and mentor to all those that need a hand or a lift up. He has started a personal journey to become a more positive person and you can see all his progress on his Facebook page here. When you are around him you can feel the positive energy. We need more people like Dustin in the world. That is initially what drew me to him, his energy and love for just living. Working with Dustin was such a pleasure and I am so glad that I got to meet such an amazing person.

Dustin is an all around photographer, shooting weddings, families, engagements, singles, anything you can imagine at Dustin Izatt Photography. He also teaches others during mentoring sessions and classes that he offers. Through his photography, you can see his gift with being able to connect with his models on a more personal level. He makes you feel like you have been lifelong friends and that you can be comfortable when getting the shots.

Not only does he do photography, he also has Dustin Izatt Photo Booths. Fun photo booth rentals in Utah for Weddings, Birthday Parties, Family Reunions, and more. It is the perfect way to celebrate with your guests and capture some great memories that can be cherished forever.

I just wanted to take the time out to say Happy Birthday Dustin and show off a little of his work and who he is as a person! Here is a little interview to get to know a little more about him and his passion for photography and also some of the amazing shots he got on his mentoring session!

What was your career path? How did you get from being an aspiring photographer to actually doing it full time, for a living?

I originally wanted to be a jr high school science teacher. I was working at a call center and doing photography on the side. I was shooting mostly nature shots. One of my friends happened to like my nature shots and was getting married, so she asked if I would take pictures at her wedding. I did and from there others asked me to do theirs. It got to the point I was making more shooting a few weddings per month than I was making working at the call center.

How do you get the person, place or thing that is in front of the camera onto the film, chip or paper in just the way you want?

I do a lot of communicating with my clients when it comes to posing them just the way I want, I ask them to mirror me and will position myself so they see exactly what it is that I’m wanting. I direct them where to look, where to place their hands, how to angle their body and head etc.

What motivates you to continue taking pictures economically, politically, intellectually or emotionally?

I would say emotionally I stay motivated to take pictures because it allows me to be creative and allows me to connect with others on a very personal level. I enjoy seeing the vast diversity each wedding brings and every wedding brings new connections. I enjoy hearing the highlights of how the couple met, how each of them grew up and how their families played a role in their lives of who they are today. It’s those emotional speeches and unique stories that keep me emotionally motivated to continue taking pictures.

Among your works, which one is your favorite? Why?

I had the opportunity to travel to Ireland to shoot a wedding and we spent a few hours at the Giant’s Causeway. It ended up being one of my favorite wedding pictures because the scenery was just so unique and majestic. My wife and I had never been out of the country, so to be trusted to fly across the globe to be there to capture these images meant a lot to us and was one of the best experiences we have had together. Every time I look at this image of this bride and groom kissing on the Giant’s Causeway, my memory is flooded with the amazing time we had together in Ireland.

What is the one thing you wish you knew when you started taking photos?

I wish I knew about the amazing opportunity of interning with those I admired. I was far too naive to even realize that you could intern, I thought everyone just learned everything themselves and did everything the hard way. As I started to develop my talent and became noticed by others, I had tons of people reach out to intern with me and I thought, why did I never think of that haha.

If you were not taking photos, what would you be doing as a career?

If I were to stop doing photography, I think I would pursue a career as a personal life coach or mentor and possibly look into public speaking. I’ve always had a passion for helping others.

I am mildly obsessed with taking photos. I love capturing moments that we will be able to look back on for years and years to come. Not only is it a great way to share memories with families, but also for when your children get older and they can look back at the moments you shared with them. Most, and really most mean probably all, of my photos end up on Instagram. Over a year of memories taken and no way to have them forever. Far to often, we are seeing innocent accounts of mothers being taken down by Instagram because someone is offended by nursing pictures or just their account in general. Once their account is taken down they have to beg and plead just to get their accounts back or have all those memories lost forever. The thought of losing every picture and caption and not being able to ever see them again, frankly is scary. So what is a mom to do?

Chatbooks to the rescue! For just $6 you can create a 60 color page book of your memories from Instagram! As you can see, they come in volumes. I started with 4 books, I think I had 22 volumes that could be printed! The quality is pretty great and the boys love looking over all the pictures. You can exclude photos you do not want in your book and even custom cover photos. These books are something we will be able to look back at and remember what we did on a specific day, to see all the fun we had, and reminisce over every precious memory that is not a guarantee for tomorrow. It is as simple as downloading the app in the app store, for free, and following the instructions. I also love supporting businesses in Utah! I can not wait to add more volumes to our collection. Thank you chapbook for having such an awesome product!
